Spring Into Wellness!
Happy Spring!
We are so excited to welcome the changing season!
As the ground thaws out, the days get longer, and the air gets warmer, we can expect some similar shifts in our body-mind.
Body-mind is a term coined by Margaret Price, disability studies researcher. Price uses "bodymind" to acknowledge the inseparable connection between mental and physical processes, arguing that they are not two separate entities but rather interact and shape each other.
Spring is associated with the awakening of nature – both plants and animals. When plants awaken from dormancy, their energy is shifted from a state of conservation to one of growth and activity.
Do you feel this happening within yourself?
What we’ve noticed:
Clients have reported a general increase in positive mood but ALSO a general increase of anxiety!
This makes so much sense from an evolutionary perspective! Anxiety is the mobilization of sympathetic nervous system energy. It can be uncomfortable but it isn’t always bad. We suggest transitioning anxiety into it’s closest, more positive, friend… excitement! A great way to do this is through play.
How can you channel excitement through play this month?
Some ideas:
blast some music and dance around!
sing in the car!
make a collage!
go for a nature walk!
start a garden!
go thrifting!
New Offerings at CCW
As for our team, we have all been puttering away throughout the winter so we could launch some new offerings this Spring!
Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing Treatment
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured psychotherapy approach used to help individuals process and alleviate the distressing symptoms associated with traumatic experiences. It can be used to target negative core beliefs that have developed as a result of “stuck” memories that contribute to a variety of conditions such as PTSD, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders. It can also be used to assist neurodivergent and highly sensitive folks with developing a more compassionate self-concept as they navigate life.
EMDR involves recalling distressing memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, typically rapid eye movements, but also tapping or auditory tones. This process has been widely proven to help the brain reprocess the trauma, reducing the emotional impact, and associated symptoms, and helping clients develop a healthier self-concept.

Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems (IFS), developed by psychologist Richard Schwartz, is a model of psychotherapy that views the mind as a system of interconnected subpersonalities, or "parts," that each have their own unique perspectives, feelings, and roles. It posits that beneath these parts lies a core "Self" that is inherently calm, compassionate, and wise. IFS aims to help individuals connect with their Self and harmonize their internal parts, fostering a more balanced and fulfilling life
Laura Gallivan, she/her
At our clinic, we are lucky to have Laura Gallivan who is trained by the official IFS Institute as a Level One IFS Therapist. She is also a IFSCA Stepping Stones Graduate, and regularly attends IFS consultation groups focusing on IFS for OCD, IFS for emotional neglect, and is currently training in IFIO (intimacy from the inside-out, IFS for couples).
